HOLLAND VAN GORES | Wood

The felled wood I work with was once alive and may have been destined for the fireplace or landfill, but through my imagination and hands, I work to bring life back into it. If I’m lucky, someone else will feel that connection, want to hold it and take it home with them. This is one of the reasons I create.
— Holland

Holland is a California native who has traveled extensively throughout Central and South America and lived in the Caribbean before landing in Brevard, North Carolina. He has spent a lifetime working with wood, primarily using fallen and discarded trees. Many of his works are finished with an application of milk paint in multiple layers – an ancient art that imparts a soft, velvety look.
